Weekend Closing of U.S. 13

MIDDLETOWN (New Castle County) — (Sept. 1) The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces the weekend closure of US 13 northbound between Hyetts Corner Road and Port Penn Road.

The weekend closure is scheduled to occur at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 8 until 6 a.m. on Monday, September 11, for concrete repairs to the existing travel lanes of US 13 north

During this closure, DelDOT says that Truck Traffic should use SR 1 northbound as an alternate route. This closure will detour traffic to Pole Bridge Road onto Port Penn Road and return to US 13 northbound.

These concrete roadway repairs span both travel lanes and the shoulder of US 13 northbound.

In an effort to expedite these repairs and minimize disruptions to daily traffic, a total weekend closure of US 13 northbound. Moving forward with this alternative plan of utilizing a total roadway closure will reduce the duration of this construction activity.
Advantages of weekend closure on US Route 13 northbound:

  • No disruption of school transportation to local schools.
  • Increased worker safety by diverting traffic away from the work zone area thereby reducing the chances of a vehicular/worker conflict.
  • Increased safety to motorists by eliminating traffic pattern changes associated with multiple stages of construction.
